You know, I like that one better than the "traditional" renderings I've seen of Cthulhu. They always seem so...earthly and easy to comprehend, in a way. I think those artists take Lovecraft's descriptions of Cthulhu too literally. I like this picture because it shows us an image of Cthulhu that isn't readily identifiable as a simple "octopus + dragon + other odd creatures we already know" chimera. It's something truly alien and unknown. Lovecraft was big on conveying the idea of how terrifying a thing is not by actually describing the thing in question, but rather by describing the thing's indescribability, often by saying things like "it looked remotely like a rabbit, a fish, and a monkey, and yet at the same time it looked nothing like any of them." I think this picture reflects that attitude better than the others.
tl;dr: this picture is superior to the others
