The design that set off the whole supership building boom, still going today.
This was one of the first vessels to have multiple decks of cabins above the beltline (the straight, horizontal line off the bows, shown here in that decorative red stripe painted down the side).

A Big Things two-fer: big old-scool American cars posed in front of a big old-school American ocean liner.

I love superships.
Some of the best things ever built IMO.

With some hydroponics, wind + solar (and other power sources that are readily available), these things could probably become independent.

"Floating cities" FTW.

First thing came to mind when I saw this thread. Execution of The World sadly doesn't match the theory of the Freedom Ship.

For a while, there was a site offering cabins-for-life aboard enormous ultra-liners, which would basically take you on round-the-world cruises for the rest of your life. You could buy everything from tiny, one-bed "studio" style cabins with no views up to huge five-bedroom homes with foyers and spiral staircases on the upper decks. One of the cool things offered for the smaller cabins was a sort of cable-access to numerous CCTV-HD video cameras placed ideally around the outside hull. You could just dial in the view you wanted to see on your three-foot flatscreen monitor and enjoy the outside view without leaving your cabin.
The site was hard to navigate for all the dead links, but the overall concept was entirely fascinating.
Pic is a CG render of the current king-bitch superlinerunder construction, due to sail in 2010 or 2011:1/2
