Board lineup changes (28)

In the words of Bob Dylan, everybody must get stoned.... no wait, wrong song.... ah! The times, they are a-changin'.

There just isn't a lot of activity on here lately – lots of lurking, but not much posting. So we're gonna stir it up a little bit.

tl;dr: Post more on >>>/fw/, >>>/cats/, and >>>/w/; post non-crap on >>>/code/; suggest some interesting board ideas.

Average posts per week over the past 90 days:

/fw/ 0.70
/cats/ 1.24
/j/ 3.81
/code/ 3.89
/w/ 4.98
/o/ 6.22
/big/ 6.61
/f/ 12.52
/ma/ 19.29
/m/ 22.32
/z/ 23.72

Clearly /m/, /z/, /ma/, and /f/ have no trouble staying afloat. /big/, /o/, and /j/ are doing all right considering the specificity of their subjects, although /j/ could certainly use more posting – especially considering that ko-chan is no longer around, and their "goods" board seemed fairly active.

>>>/fw/ is by far the most significantly under-performing board. Unless someone has a totally awesome collection of light-related images they're willing to dump, it's going to get axed early next year. Shame, too, because the existing posts are decent quality; there just simply aren't enough of them.

>>>/cats/ has been disappointing lately. For a while it was a decent board with a handful of regular posters and fresh content, but as of late, it's tapered off to practically nothing. As with /fw/, post more or it's getting canned.

>>>/code/ gets posts on occasion, in fact more than /j/, but well, they kinda suck. If this board's quality doesn't improve a bit, it's going bye-bye too. (I'm a bit surprised so few people have taken advantage of the ability to post zip/tar files there.)

>>>/w/ has a misleadingly high average; most of those are in the headphone thread, and the board gets hardly any love aside from that, which is silly because there's no shortage of backgrounds (unless everyone is just using a solid color background).

Btw, content archives will be posted for any boards that get cut, so there's no need to start furiously downloading everything.

Now, cutting these boards alone would suck, so along with these changes there will be some new boards added. Probably three or so, but largely depending on how many are removed. Any suggestions?

Rename /code/ to /prog/ and allow crap posts.

3 Name: Anonymous : 2008-12-10 13:20 ID:WjF1TDoL [Del]

Can you tell like what posts came from whom? I was thinking before how much of the content on /w/ was posted by me.

Not easily, and the codebase is moving in a direction that will make it harder.

5 Name: Anonymous : 2008-12-10 17:51 ID:WjF1TDoL [Del]

Okay, how many files are in /w/ altogether? I posted 99 desktop backgrounds but I may have miscounted.

6 Name: Anonymous : 2008-12-10 18:32 ID:Heaven [Del]

There are 229 files in w/src/.

7 Name: Anonymous : 2008-12-10 22:13 ID:Heaven [Del]

Hehehe. Do I come here too much?

I download everything anyway, usually.
What boards are getting cut do you think?

How about a food board? Everyone eats.

I've been greatly enjoying 420chan's /nom/ recently

for new boards, I would sugest maybe an Astronomy or Space board for NASA/JAXA/ESA discussion, spaceflight, discoveries in astronomy and those cool space images.

... Well that failed miserably, and I broke my post. :|

Trying again...

  • /fw/: well, there's been no content for ~3 weeks, so it's been archived (34mb; this includes all of the html files). The pages will still be browsable for another couple weeks.
  • /code/: the top 3 threads are apparently about how to drink coffee, homework help, and /prog/ nonsense, so >>2's suggestion is going to come into play. Sort of. /code/ is getting wiped clean and renamed; here (7.5mb) is the archive. Also, if /prog/ isn't awesome in two weeks, it's just plain getting dropped.
  • /j/: safe for now, but post rates are still pretty low.
  • /w/: same. Also, no one has yet posted a single theme file on there. Where are the people who supported that idea?...

And welcome to:

Also, that was astoundingly complicated.

21 Name: Anonymous : 2009-01-26 16:18 ID:NpVNf7YY [Del]

When I try to make a wonderful /prog/ thread, I get

'NoneType' object is unsubscriptable

I am sad.

I supported the themes idea, but as a macfag it's pretty useless to me. I just wanted to stir some activity :(
Hooray for /p/ though!

on an unrelated note, how is the little ID next to each post generated?

Oh yeah, I've actually seen Liteicon before.

I see the old boards have been dropped and the trial ones now in place properly. Nice.

Hey Mods, just want to say thanks for the site, I appreciate it, even if it is so quiet.
