To be honest, not many manga are like Hotel...deep and introspective and such. You might be more interested in western Alternative comics, like stuff by Daniel Clowes, Adrianne Tomine, Craig Thompson, Alan Moore, or Warren Ellis.

I'd specifically reccomend "Survival Machine" or "Resonator" by Prentis Rollins. They're kind of similar to Hotel, a sort of deep sci-fi.

Some other Japanese works you might like are Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, anything by Shintaro Kago, or...I dunno, Gunslinger Girl?

You might enjoy other stuff by Boichi, like Present, which was pretty emotional too. I heard a bunch of his other stuff is hentai though, so if you're not into that, tread those waters carefully.
