So Risen torrent sucks and I got bored so I went on mangafox and started checking out just about everything that's not shoujo. And guess what, there are actually few mangas worth reading. I'm as surprised as you are.
But interesting thing I noticed is, most of mangas I liked are either Mature and/or Smut. I guess it's easier for me to accept fast relationships than romance/ecchi snozefest which never goes anywhere because the guy is a retard, the chick is a retard, there's an earthquake every time they do as much as look at each other, or all of the above. And straight-out sex is nowhere near as idiotic as fanservice. So yeah, I'll take sex in second chapter over 5-volume story arc culminating in holding hands or something equally neutered.
That or all these years on the net turned me into a complete pervert, plain and simple.
Anyway, here's what I dug out:
Rabuyan: Comedy about a lonely unrequited hikki who gets visited by an angel of love and... are you asleep yet? You should be, but despite the generic setup believe me - this is nothing like your typical romantic comedy, mostly because a) it has absolutely no romance whatseover and b) despite zero nudity it's still rated M, so the jokes can be pretty thick.
Bakuman: Bakuman is actually not all that good - there is a certain sluggishness to it I remember very well from Hikaru No Go. That's because both deal with a difficult subjects. Difficult in the representation sense, not moral sense. Just like HNG was about Go, Bakuman is about drawing mangas. So if you're remotely interested in how mangas are being made - and since you're reading this here you probably are - you should check it out since it lays out everything pretty smoothly. After reading it I started noticing things I couldn't see before in mangas I read, so I have to recommend it.
Saru Lock: About a guy named Saru(duh) who is a great locksmith(double duh) and even greater trouble magnet. First story arc is really heavy(rape and stuff), but then it kind of lets go and brightens to the point of a quite funny comedy. And at that point it really is good.
Koe de Oshigoto: About a girl who, at her 16th birthday, starts working at her older sister's company as a voice actor. Trick is, the company makes eroges(porn videogames). Erotic comedy sometimes crossing into smut territory, since the sister's eyebrow-raising ideas are matched only by the girl's willingness to go with them. And her dubious voice acting "gift". The pic is from this one.
Nana to Kaoru: A guy who's into S&M and his childhood friend(of course) who finds out that S&M is a great way to relax. While there is no nudity, the mature content is pretty obvious, but the chick is hot so if you own balls you shouldn't complain. But the real reason why I liked it is that this is the first manga I've read where the "average high school student" - the protagonist, Kaoru - is not a total failure. Well, he's ugly, small, weak, and his grades suck, but despite all that he knows his shit, even if said shit is only S&M, and he knows how to use it. And since a good bit of S&M is psychology, it also makes him first manga character with emotional intelligence higher than potted plant's. Devious smugs ensued(Both mine and Kaoru's).
Love Comedy Style: Well there's no way around this one, it's half-comedy half-smut. If you can't come on terms with treating sex lightly, you won't like it. I'm writing this because the comments on mangafox were nothing short of moronic. I mean, more than usual.
Go! Tenba Cheerleaders: The premise is simple, let's make half-sports half-comedy full of fanservice. The result is quite surprising, because that's a recipe for a serving of suck. I honestly can't even point my finger on it, but the story rolls so well it really is a good read. Despite the obvious pitfall of "sport" there is nothing cringeworthy in it, and the fanservice is bearable because shit, it's about cheerleaders god dammit.
Yankee-kun to Megane-chan: About a deliquent(slang for deliquent is "yankee" - wow should I be offended?) who is being reformed by a beautiful, smart, and kind class rep. Except she's not beautiful, she's dumb as a brick, and an ex-deliquent herself, and the "yankee" is quite unwilling. As far as "high school life comedy" genre goes, this one is one of the best. Not that it's a great read, since said genre sucks so much. But it's still okay.
