Breaking the 200 row limit in patterns (5)

How deeply hardcoded in the format is the 200 rows per pattern limit? 256 row patterns would be more useful, though I realize it might break some external players. But I think it could still be made available in the tracker.

It's possible, technically, but 256-row patterns can potentially result in data overflows in the IT format, and also crash Impulse Tracker. Modplug can do it; Schism's resistance to it is more for philosophical reasons than anything else.
Not that it's going to stay that way, mind. I estimate that, this summer, Schism Tracker will see some ... sweeping changes.

I've been using impulse tracker from 98-2006 (with DOS and later DOSBox)
i found schism in early 2007 and made my first track with it soon after!
my new album is almost finished and will be released on a couple of sites on tha webz during the summer/early autumn. stay tuned - I've played around A LOT with what schism has to offer that impulse didn't in this particular project!
keep working on our favorite tracker, make it modern, make it awesome, impulse tracker needs a re-birth now!
