Press (Ctrl-)F5 and the current module plays. Press 'i' to toggle between sample and instrument names. Quit Schism and whatever setting you had is forgotten. Could you maybe let Schism remember this in its config file?

Hmm... I suppose it might be possible to determine the size of blank patterns based on the size of existing ones. At least in the case where they're all the same I don't think it would cause any inconveniences.

I'll give this some thought.

Wouldn't it be great if Schism could remember the default pattern size used? (Ctrl-F2) One song of mine has a DPS of 48 and now Schism thinks it has 199 edited patterns. (The logic behind this is, any pattern that is not 64 rows must be considered 'edited')

Maybe this isn't as simple as it looks and would require to store the DPS in the file format, against which you might have all kinds of objections?

:)

I think one of the most worthwhile contributions someone can make is simply being an active user – posting here, saying hello once in a while on irc, reporting bugs / missing features / esoteric wishlist requests, etc. I have heard from one or two people that they'd thought Schism Tracker was a dead project since there's not much activity here, and because it's such a quiet userbase. I suppose the two feed off each other to some extent, too.

Even if it's one of the best trackers ever.

Should i post about it on slashdot ? (yes i'd do that, if you want). Well, if they accept my post. Perhaps you should write the post yourself if you want it to be perfect...

Whatever...

Thank you, schism tracker enables me to create the music i want.

Porting Schism Tracker to Wii was a good idea, I'm familiar with Trackers (using ModPlug Tracker on PC very often). But one thing is strange: the audio output seems to be opposite-phase, because notes played on left are output to the right speaker channel and vice versa.
All other Homebrew that I use play music with the correct channel assignment (left on left, right on right). Maybe a bug in SDL for Wii or in Schism Tracker.

Hey!
I just discovered where the volume multipliers for adlib are hiding. Played with it somewhat, made it louder, but I can't really tell.

Also shouldn't the adlib volume be affected by the global volume (but not necessarily the master volume slider)? Comments in the code say it's not, but that seems wrong, and not very useful.

I went and did something entirely superfluous, and did an "official" Wii homebrew port of Schism Tracker. Unzip it to
sd:/apps/
, or give it to
wiiload
. Everything "should" work the same as on a PC, and it also has some rather simple Wiimote support. See the Wiibrew wiki page for more info.

Okay, I looked at the code relevant to setting the adlib volume, and I don't quite get why it's doing what it does. Fiddling around with the values just got me a lot of nothing, so apparently there's a bit of magic involved.

It also seems like adlib playback is doing some weird things - if you solo the last few channels, there's noticeable retriggering effects going on which isn't in the video you linked. I don't know anything about how the adlib code works though, Maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself might be able to point out the obvious that I'm missing? Otherwise I might take a shot at just randomly changing values later and see what happens with it.

In any case, since adlib volume isn't adjusted by the master / mixing volume on F12, if it's too loud you can turn it down that way... but that answer is lame :)

Oh – and what is that player? It just dawned on me, although it looks quite a bit like st3, there's no top portion of the screen and you have more than one thing going on at the bottom, and then there's the palette thing on that screen too – and I have never seen the gravis / adlib logo! :o

Adjust the equalizer appropriately for your soundcard and speakers. though I do wonder why it's not possible to attenuate frequency bands with it :/

I plan to add chorus/reverb "eventually" as a channel effect via Zxx, in the same way that filters currently work. I bet you were using a multisampled instrument with a nonlinear note/sample mapping, because that was totally broken.

I tested S3M on the real hardware. It was Synergy ViperMAX sound card which has GUS and AdLib chips on it's board. Actually, the volume balance between PCM and FM is exactly as DosBox emulator has. So, you can use Scream Tracker 3 under DosBox for test.
Now Schism plays FM approximately 2.6 times quietly then original.

I just loaded an S3M with AdLib samples into Schism Tracker and was wondered: it shows AdLib parameters! It excite me very much. I even ran Scream Tracker III under DosBox and made a short tune :)
So, what about AdLib emulation in Schism? May be it wouldn't be too hard (there is open source adplug project)?
It can drive the Scene to made some cool S3M tunes. Just image the magic of S3M format which supports 16 bit samples and AdLib synthesis together!

I have to say I much prefer this business of having the weekend at the end of the song-writing week than the beginning. It takes my brain a few days to come up with anything good at all, once I get a feel for the samples then I start making my tune. (Even when they're just piano! :P) So this way I still get some proper time to compose once the ideas have started to form.
