would it be possible to record what is played blindly in f3 during playback?
if i could use f3 playback and , and . to change channel and record that directly into the pattern, thatd be amazing.
then the next step is simply to start working on the midi in
Possibly an even better idea: build a throwaway "keyjazz" pattern that holds the last n notes/rows/seconds/whatever of data played on the sample/instrument lists. On the first note, clear that pattern and start recording into it, and after a certain period of inactivity, stop recording.
Then add a key to save the keyjazz pattern data — dump it to a new pattern, write to the clipboard so it can be alt-p/alt-o/whatevered to the pattern editor, I dunno.
This would be pretty useful. I always seem to make these interesting melodies by accident when I'm just messing with samples and can never quite recreate them in the pattern editor.
But let's hang onto this for a while — I'd rather add a completely awesome feature when it's been fully baked instead of a pretty useful half-baked one ;)
this is great, this is exactly the virtual layer that ive wanted into impulsetracker/schism/revisit for pretty much the past 3,5 years.
this also has connotations towards Logic's "Capture Last Take" where f2/f3 jammed in notes are actually recorded to a "phantom pattern" that can be accessed and dumped into a real pattern at any point in time. this is great. i hope whoever wrote that is a coder cos then it means that its finally starting to come through!!
a throwaway pattern layer would be magnificient!
yes this would be wonderful. shift-scroll-lock maybe? shift-ctrl-f? itd' be lovely to be able to just have a pattern playing in f6 and be in f3 and stab in notes, without actually seeing what you are doing, just listening and adding samples as you go along. wonderful news!
