Idea for command/value split or link (6)

...so this morning i was tracking an old nes chiptune, and i was often switching the pat.editor's setting between "split" (normal) and "link" (weird, but sometimes useful) mode.

Often pressing F2 from the pattern editor to set or check the "command/value columns" setting made me think: it would be quite useful if you could see which setting is used just by looking at the patterns, without needing to check the "f2-twice" box. The most straightforward way i can think of, is to draw the two parameter digits, or the fx command itself, in a different color when set to "link". What do you think?

Errr...

I usually have mine set to 'link', and having the colors suddenly all change might make my brain melt. :/

However I think having an indicator of some sort is a good idea. Suggestion: in "link" mode, draw the cursor over the effect and its value – think how the note/octave are paired together in the the 24 channel view. (See image.)

... Hmm. Just found a bug: hitting F2 again from within that dialog isn't saving the settings before closing it, you actually have to hit "done".

... Oh, nice job on the thumbnail. Same dimensions as the image itself, with lossy compression and seven times as large.

Hahaha, that just made my day :D (and yeah i checked the file sizes)

Yeah, and pressing ESC applies the settings whereas F2 again doesn't... should be the other way around. (in IT there's no way to cancel, ie. it always applies changes even with ESC, which i consider is a bug)

About the screenshot.. indeed this would solve the (original) issue completely, but how would you know which of the 3 digits you're on? ...maybe change the coloring just for the current note?

Same as how you can tell, in the 24 channel view, whether you're on the note or octave. When you're on the note (effect), the whole column is highlighted; move the cursor right, and only the octave (value) is highlighted.

Agreed with the escape key.

Escape key fix added to F2 options page (except in classic mode).

Expect it in tonight's build...
